Diesel Injector Steps Before Install

Posted by

Cores are returned for remanufacturing and when disassembled common problems are found.  All diesel systems are prone to fuel contamination.  Contaminates can come from bad fuel, failing pumps, or just corrosion over time.  To avoid issues with injectors for Ford Powerstroke, Cummins, Duramax, or any diesel engine, we recommend the following when installing injectors or pumps:

-Clean out the fuel tank.

-Replace fuel filters.

-Ensure the old washer came out with the old injector.

-Properly torque the injector during install

-Cummins 6.7 and 5.9 replace the injector tubes

-Ford 6.4, 6.7 and Duramax LB7, LBZ, LLY, and LML ensure all return and feed lines are reusable.

-Ford 6.0 perform the "Air test" using a IPR fitting before tear down and after install to ensure no high pressure oil leaks.

-When buying fuel we recommend using branded stations like Exxon, Shell, etc. as the fuel is their own and not from a wholesale market.

-Fuel filters have many suggestions around when to change.  Changing at the oil change interval time seems to be the best example.

Ensuring to identify the underlying issue causing injector failure is key to getting the job done the 1st time, as well as preventing future issues.
